Created in 2020, the Möbius Bench is a variation of my iconic Möbius Console. I imagined it as a continuation of the Möbius ribbon, a compact geometric shape that endlessly winds around itself. It’s an unending ribbon of wood, without seams, joints or any apparent assembly and yet made of several layers of thin slats assembled with resin. While working on the long benches of the 22 Bishopsgate project I was inspired to create a simple and light seat with elegant lines and a sensual feel like the Möbius Console.
With a lower and more elongated shape than the Console, the Möbius Bench is designed to bear seated weight: its thickness is greater and reinforced by a solid wood panel carved in an elegant curve, giving the bench the necessary support. It is the same technique that I use for my Wave Desk yet more pronounced, supported and elaborate.
Initially designed in American walnut, a wood with a slightly ashy color and very clear veining, I have also made a teak version of the Möbius Bench, an exotic species that perfectly lends itself to outdoor use.
